God Deserves A Chance To Prove Himself

Proverbs 11:25 The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself

Read Proverbs 11:1-31.

The law of generosity involves three things. First, when you give freely as unto your Lord, He promises you’ll have something left over. Notice verse 24: “Scattereth, and yet increaseth.” Some years ago, a church member stood up during the midweek service and said, “I have to admit that I have been upset with the pastor’s preaching about tithing. After all, I only make a few dollars a week, and there is never enough money to go around as it is. I thought it was impossible to give God a tenth of my income. Last week, though, I got to thinking about it, and the idea came to me that God deserves a chance to prove Himself. So I thought, I’ll try it for one week. When payday came, I took one tenth of the money and laid it aside for the Lord’s work. Folks,” he said with a smile, “I can’t tell you how it happened, but when we got done paying our bills, we had a little money left!”

Second, when you are generous, you will be more influential and significant, with an air of spiritual health about you (v. 25). And third, when you are generous, you will be perceived by others a source of blessing! (v. 26) What an inducement to give generously for our Lord’s glory!

Small thought here. Try giving to God off the top of your paycheck rather than after every other obligation has been paid. God says, “Them that honor Me, I will honor” (1 Sam. 2:30).
